Souvestre-Paschalis, Paschalis-Souvestre, Adelina, actually Adelina Jakubowicz, *1849 (or 1845, 1847?) Warsaw, †23 March 1925 Dresden, Polish singer (soprano/mezzo-soprano and teacher. She graduated from the singing class of J. Dobrski at the Music Institute in Warsaw ca. 1864; she continued vocal studies in Milan with G. Corsi and F. Lamperti from 1867. In 1869, she debuted in the title role in V. Bellini’s Norma in Cuneo (Piemont), later she performed with an Italian opera ensemble in Odesa and in opera theatres in Rome and Palermo (1870), Turin, Genua and Venice (until 1873), Trieste, Nice (1874/75) and Barcelona (1875). In 1875, she engaged with the work at the Grand Theatre in Warsaw by C. Trombini, and in 1875–76 she sang in Aida (Amneris) and Il trovatore (Azucena) by G. Verdi and in operas by Ch. Gounod and G. Meyerbeer. In some years, she also performed in Un ballo in maschera and Traviata by G. Verdi, in Lucrezia Borgia by G. Donizetti, in La Juive by F. Halévy and Lohengrin by R. Wagner (Otruda). She met an Italian baritone, August Souvestre (1842–1912) in the Warsaw Opera ensemble, and they married. In April and May 1876, they performed together in Lviv, on 19 May 1876 in Krakow, and later in Lisbon, Mexico, Havana, New York, Frankfurt am Main, Prague and Kyiv. Performances in La Scala in Milan were the consummation of Souvestre-Paschalis’s career in 1882/83 (Azucena). After returning to Poland, she settled in Lviv, where she performed in Il trovatore by Verdi with W. Mierzwiński. In 1886, she began her educational career in the singing school, founded and run together with her husband, which was moved to Dresden in 1893, competing with G.B. Lamperti’s school with success. Both Souvestre educated many excellent singers, including M. Heller, W. Florjański, M. Kozłowska (in Lviv), S. Argasińska- Choynowska, M. Polińska-Lewicka, A. Ludwig, A. Okoński, E. Raabe-Burg (in Dresden).
