Artôt, Alexandre-Joseph
Artôt Marguerite-Joséphine-Désirée, actually Montagney, *21 July 1835 Paris, †3 April 1907 Berlin, daughter of Jean Désirée, French-Belgian singer (mezzo-soprano). In 1855–57, she studied with P. Viardot-Garcia. After her successes in Brussels and performances at the Paris Opera (in 1858 as Fides in G. Meyerbeer’s The Prophet), she went on numerous concert tours. She performed, among others, in Italy, Germany, England, Poland and Russia. She was friends with P. Czajkowski. In 1869, she married M. de Padilla y Ramos, a Spanish singer, with whom she performed on opera stages, among others. in Italy. In 1884–89, she lived in Berlin, then in Paris, where she was engaged in teaching work.
