Biography

Artôt Alexandre-Joseph, actually Montagney, *25 January 1815 Brussels, †20 July 1845 Ville-d’Avray (now Paris), Maurice’s son, a French-Belgian violinist. He studied in Brussels, and then in 1824–31 with R. and A. Kreutzer at the conservatory in Paris. He gave concerts in various countries in Europe and North America. He composed mainly pieces for violin with orchestra, e.g. Concerto in A minor, or with piano accompaniment, including: fantasies, arias and variations, and chamber music, e.g. string quartet and piano quintet.
