Biography

Münch, Munch Fritz, *2 June 1890 Strasbourg, †10 March 1970 Niederbronn-les-Bains (depart. Bas-Rhin), French choral conductor and teacher, son of Ernst. He completed his musical, musicological and theological studies in Strasbourg (with, among others, F. Spitta), and continued them with H. Pfitzner in Berlin and K. Straube and A. Schering in Leipzig. In 1924–61, he conducted the Choeur de St-Guillaume in Strasbourg, which repertoire included oratorio music, starting with the works of J.S. Bach after P. Hindemith, F. Poulenc and A. Honegger. From 1929 to 1961, he was director of the conservatory, and from 1949 to 1958 director of the institute of musicology at the University of Strasbourg.
