Münch, Munch Ernst, *31 December 1859 Niederbronn-les-Bains (depart. Bas-Rhin), †11 April 1928 Strasbourg, French organist, choral conductor and teacher. After studying at the Königliches Akademisches Institut für Kirchenmusik in Berlin (with C.A. Haupt), he took up the position of organist of the St-Guillaume Church in Strasbourg (1882), where he founded the Choeur de St-Guillaume, which he conducted until 1924. Münch’s performances of J.S. Bach’s cantatas and passions, in which A. Schweitzer, who was related to him, participated as an organist, made Strasbourg a significant centre of Bach’s music. Münch was a professor and director (from 1918) of the local conservatory.
