Biography and Literature

Liebich Johann Gottfried, *1742 or 1743, †1824 Wrocław, a Silesian luthier, was the son of Johann Gottlieb Liebich, who made violins based on Jacob Steiner’s instruments in his home business in Sobieszów (German: Hermsdorf am Kynast, owned by the Schaffgotsch family) near Jelenia Góra. After an apprenticeship with Sebastian Rauch in Prague, Gottfried opened his own workshop in Wrocław in 1789, where he built violins, harps and guitars.
