Grisi, Giulia
Grisi Giuditta, married to Count of Barni, *28 July 1805 Milan, †1 May 1840 Robecco d’Oglio (near Cremona), Italian singer (mezzo-soprano). She learned at her aunt J. Grassini and in 1822–24, at the Milan Conservatory. In 1826, she debuted in Vienna in Rossini’s Bianca e Faliero. She performed in Florence, Parma, Turin and for a few seasons in Venice, where in 1830, she sang the role of Romeo in Bellini’s opera I Capuleti e i Montecchi written for her and her sister Giulia. In 1832, she was a guest in London and Paris, and in 1833 in Bologna and Madrid. She was the most successful in Rossini’s and Bellini’s operas. In 1838, after performances in Teatro Valle in Rome, she withdrew from the stage.
