Biography

Ganz [ganc] Adolf, *14 October 1796 Mainz, †11 January 1870 London, German violinist, composer, and conductor. From 1819 he was a conductor in Mainz. In 1825, he became Kapellmeister of the Darmstadt court orchestra. From 1840 to 1842 he conducted the German opera in London, where he settled permanently from 1850. He was also choirmaster at Her Majesty’s Theatre. He composed overtures, marches, songs, works for male choir, and melodramas.
