Szulc Józef Zygmunt, pseud. Jan Sulima, *4 April 1875 Warsaw, †10 April 1956 Paris, Polish pianist, composer, conductor and teacher, son of Henryk. He studied composition with Z. Noskowski at the Music Institute in Warsaw, and later piano with E. Jedlička, H. Schramke and M. Moszkowski in Berlin. In 1897, he started teaching piano classes at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin and became a conductor of the opera orchestra in Stuttgart; later he went to Paris, where he continued his piano studies with I.J. Paderewski. He conducted the orchestra in France, Poland, Germany and Belgium. In 1910, he settled in Paris. He is known primarily as the author of operettas, performed on French and Belgian stages.
