Biography

Schröter, Schroeter, Schroeder, Johann Friedrich, *1724 Eilenburg, †1811 Kassel, German oboist and teacher. In 1748 he was an oboist in Count Brühl’s regiment. Around 1755 he moved with his family to Warsaw, and around 1763 to Leipzig. Together with his five musically talented children, he completed a tour of Germany, the Netherlands and England in 1771–73; afterwards, the Schröter family returned to Leipzig. From 1779 to 1786, J.F. Schröter was a court musician and teacher in Hanau and later in Kassel. His compositions that are currently known are only 6 duets for violin and cello, published around 1772 in London.
