Biography

Fujiwara Yoshie, *5 December 1898 Fukuoka, †22 March 1976 Tokyo, Japanese singer (tenor). From 1920, he studied in Italy. He was the founder (1934), soloist and director of the Fujiwara Opera Company in Tokyo, a company which introduced the Japanese public to a number of European operas for the first time, including W.A. Mozart’s Don Giovanni, G. Verdi’s La Traviata, R. Wagner’s Tannhäuser, G. Bizet’s Carmen, and G. Puccini’s Tosca. In 1952, 1953 and 1956, he performed with his band in the USA.
