Dancla Jean-Pierre-Léopold, *1 June 1822 Bagnères-de-Bigorre, †29 April 1895 Paris, brother of Charles Dancla, was a French cornetist, violinist, and composer. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire, where he completed the cornet class of P.-J.-E. Meifred (1841) and the violin class of Baillot (1842). For some time, he served as a cornetist in the National Guard; from 1839 he was associated with the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire, and from 1853 he played in the orchestras of Parisian theatres (including, from 1858, the Théâtre Italien). He was active primarily as a chamber musician in both of his specializations, often performing together with his siblings.
