Coenen, Anton
Coenen Willem, *17 November 1837 Rotterdam, †18 March 1918 Lugano, son of Ludovicus, Dutch pianist and composer. From 1854, he lived in Paramaribo (Suriname) and performed in South and Central America. In 1862, he settled in London, where he continued his concert activities, composed and taught piano at the Guildhall School of Music. In 1909, he moved to the Lugano area. He wrote piano music, songs, cantatas and masses; his most important work is the oratorio Lazarus (1878).
