Weber, Fridolin
Weber Franz Edmund Kaspar Johann Nepomuk Joseph Maria von, baptised 19 June 1766 Hildesheim, †1832 (?), German composer, conductor, bassoonist, director, son of Franz Anton from his first marriage. After studying music under J. Haydn in Vienna (1787–1788) he was mainly active in the theatre, initially in his father’s opera troupe, with which he staged his Singspiels in Nuremberg (Der Transport im Koffer oder Die glückliche Entwicklung, 1792), Salzburg (Martin Fex oder Ich habe keine Brüder mehr, 1795) and Coburg (Die Zwillingsschwestern, 1801). He then stayed in Würzburg (1804–1805), Wuppertal (1810–1811), Bamberg (1812–1819), and Lübeck (1819–1821), and was music director in Bern (1812–1819) and Königsberg (1823–1824). He devoted the last years of his life to nurturing the singing career of his daughter Therese Weber (1809–1884), who performed in Detmold (1828–1830) and Würzburg (1830).
