Biography

Frączkiewicz Aleksander, *8 December 1910 Brzeżany (Podole), †28 February 1994, Polish musicologist and teacher. In 1935, he graduated from the Conservatoire of the Polish Music Society in Lviv (piano, composition, and teacher training). He also studied philosophy at Jan Kazimierz University, and musicology at both the Jan Kazimierz University and the Jagiellonian University. In 1947, he obtained a doctorate in musicology from the Jagiellonian University on the basis of his thesis Polski koncert fortepianowy po Chopinie [The Polish Piano Concerto after Chopin]. Between 1936 and 1939 he was a teaching assistant; from 1946 he lectured in music history and theory at the Jagiellonian University and at the State Higher School of Music in Kraków, where he was awarded the title of associate professor in 1957.
