Biography

Staszewski Kazimierz, *12 March 1963 Warsaw, Polish singer, composer, saxophonist and songwriter. Self-educated musician. He studied sociology at the University of Warsaw. He founded bands Poland, Kult and Kazik Na Żywo; he recorded his first songs in 1986 with the band Kult. Since 1989, he has performed and recorded also independently as Kazik (Spalam się, 1991; Spalaj się, 1993; Oddalenie, 1995; 12 Groszy, 1997; Melassa, 2000; Melodie Kurta Weilla i coś ponadto, 2001; Piosenka Toma Waitsa, 2003; Los się musi odmienić, 2005). Staszewski is incredibly versatile, performing rock, urban folklore, rap, stage songs, and yass music; he writes accurate, journalistic texts on current socio-political issues (Polska, Łysy jedzie do Moskwy). He is a laureate of the Fryderyk Award 1994, 1995 and 1998 in the category of the author of the year; and the Poszport Polityki Award (1998). With the band Kult, he recorded a few albums, including, Posłuchaj to do Ciebie, 1987; Spokojnie, 1988; Tan i Kaseta, 1989; 45–89, 1990; Your Eyes, 1991; Tata Kazika, 1993; Muj wydafca, 1994; Tata 2, 1996; Ostateczny krach systemu korporacji, 1998; Salon Recreativo, 2001; with the band Kazik Na Żywo: Porozumienie ponad podziałami, 1995 and Las Maquinas de La Muerte, 1999. He also recorded music for films, including Czarne słońca (dir. J. Zalewski, 1992), Oczy niebieskie (dir. W. Szarek, 1994), Sztos (dir. O. Lubaszenko, 1997), 25 lat niewinności.
