Philidor, Danican Philidor, born Danican, Pierre, *22 August 1681 Paris, †30 August 1731 Versailles, French composer and instrumentalist (flute, oboe, cornet, and violin), and the eldest son of Jacques. In 1697 he succeeded his father in the Grands Hautbois du Roi. In 1708 he joined both the Petits Violons and the Musique de la Chapelle, and from 1716 he was a member of the Chambre du Roi.
