Lowinsky Edward Elias, *12 I 1908 Stuttgart, †10 X 1985 Chicago, amerykański muzykolog niemieckiego pochodzenia. W latach 1923–28 studiował w konserwatorium w Stuttgarcie, 1928–33 na uniwersytecie w Heidelbergu: muzykologię u H. Besselera, filozofię u K. Jaspersa, historię sztuki u A. Grisebacha; w 1933 uzyskał stopień doktora, w latach 1933–39 mieszkał w Holandii, od 1940 w Stanach Zjednoczonych (naturalizowany w 1947). Prowadził równolegle działalność naukową i pedagogiczną jako profesor: w latach 1947–56 City University w Nowym Jorku, 1956–61 University of California w Berkeley, następnie University of Chicago, gdzie w latach 1964–77 był także naczelnym redaktorem serii «Monuments of Renaissance Music». W latach 1952–55 był członkiem Institute for Advanced Study w Princeton (New Jersey). W 1971 zorganizował w Nowym Jorku międzynarodową konferencję poświęconą Josquinowi des Prés. Należał do czołowych amerykańskich muzykologów doby powojennej; zajmował się głównie problematyką muzyki renesansu, także w kontekście edycji źródłowych.
