Krukowski Stanisław, *8 May 1924 Kosów, †25 March 1991 Wrocław, Polish conductor, teacher and publicist. From 1952 to 1957, he studied conducting with W. Ormicki and A. Kopyciński at the State Higher School of Music in Wrocław. Between 1950 and 1978, he worked at the Polish Radio broadcasting station there as a rehearsal pianist, conductor (from 1958), and from 1973 to 1978 as artistic director and conductor of the Polish Radio and Television Choir, with which he gave over 100 concerts in Poland and abroad (GDR, Yugoslavia, Finland, Sweden) and produced more than 1,000 broadcast concerts. Of particular value are the archival recordings of choral works from early Polish and foreign music. He made recordings for Polskie Nagrania and Veriton (Muzyka wokalna średniowiecza, Motety renesansu, Musica Polonica Nicolao Copernico dedicata). He also worked as a guest conductor for Polish orchestras and vocal-instrumental ensembles in Wrocław and school choirs (State Music High School, State Higher School of Music). From 1958, he was a lecturer at the State Higher School of Music, and then at the Academy of Music in Wrocław (associate professor in 1970, professor in 1980), where he was a long-time dean and vice-rector. In 1964–68, he was vice-president, and in 1968–74 and 1984–88, president of the Wrocław Branch of the Association of Polish Music Artists, and in 1984–88, vice-president of the Main Board of the Association of Polish Music Artists. He is the author of Problemy wykonawcze muzyki dawnej (Legnica 1971, Warsaw 21972), Bicinia Orlando di Lasso (Legnica 1975), an article in «Zeszyty Naukowe Państwowej Wyższej Szkoły Muzycznej-Akademii Muzycznej» in Wrocław, and reviews published in “Ruch Muzyczny”, “Słowo Powszechne”, and “Poradnik Muzyczny”. He was awarded, among others, the Knight’s Cross (1981) and Officer’s Cross (1988) of the Order of Polonia Restituta, the Order of Mary Magdalene, 2nd class (1975); he was a laureate of the City of Wrocław Award (1980) and the Minister of Culture and Art Award (1972, 1980).
