Biography

Jochum Georg Ludwig, *10 December 1909 Babenhausen, †1 November 1970 Mülheim an der Ruhr, German conductor, Otton’s brother. He graduated from the conservatory in Augsburg, then at the Akademie der Tonkunst in Munich, where he studied piano with J. Pembaur the son, conducting with S. von Hausegger and composition with J. Haas. In 1932–34, he was music director in Münster, in 1934–37 the first conductor of the opera and city concerts in Frankfurt am Main, in 1937–40, he conducted similar activities in Plauen, in 1940–45, he worked in Linz as Generalmusikdirektor (from 1943 he organised Bruckner festivals in Sankt Florian), in 1946, he took up an analogue position in Duisburg, where he was also director of the conservatory (from 1958). At the same time, in 1948–50, he directed the Bamberger Symphoniker orchestra. After World War II, he was also associated with the RIAS orchestra in West Berlin. He undertook numerous artistic journeys, guest conducting in various countries in Europe, South America, and also in Japan.
