Biography

Gadzina Tadeusz, *2 March 1946 Skarżysko-Kamienna, Polish violinist. From 1964 to 1969, he studied in the class of Z. Bąkowski at the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw. During his studies, he founded a string quartet, originally named Kwartet im. Beethovena [Beethoven Quartet], which, after two years and a series of performances at the Wilanów Palace, became Kwartet Wilanowski [Wilanów Quartet]. Over the years, the ensemble achieved high European renown. In 1975–76, Gadzina studied with Y. Menuhin and Y. Neaman at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He is a laureate of several European violin competitions: the J. Sibelius Competition in Helsinki (1970), the N. Paganini Competition in Genoa (1971), the Henryk Wieniawski Competition in Poznań (1974), the Carl Flesch Violin Competition in London (1975) and the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels (1976). He is a violinist of considerable virtuosity; furthermore, his playing is dynamic and spontaneous, yet guided by intellect in interpretation. In recent years, he has somewhat limited his solo concert activity, but continues to perform chamber music – in a quartet and with pianist Maciej Paderewski.
