Biography

Faber Lothar, *7 February 1922 Cologne, †1 September 2005, German oboist and teacher. He began studying the oboe with his father and continued at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne (until 1946) and at the Conservatoire in Paris (1941). In 1946 he was a soloist with the Rundfunk-Sinfonie-Orchester in Cologne. He performed extensively and was highly regarded as an interpreter of contemporary music. Works were composed especially for him by B. Maderna and B.A. Zimmermann, and by Polish composers including T. Baird, E. Bogusławski, W. Kotoński, K. Meyer, and Z. Wiszniewski. Faber appeared at many European festivals, including frequent performances at the Warsaw Autumn Festival. From 1972 he led a masterclass in oboe at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena as part of its summer courses.
