Biogram i literatura

Dulęba Władysław, *25 May 1920 Tlumatsch (near Stanisławów, present-day Ukraine), †15 July 1987 Vancouver, Polish orientalist, documentary filmmaker, translator and poet. He began his degree in Oriental Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków in 1945 and continued his studies there between 1960 and 1966; after graduating, he worked at the Department of Iranian Studies within the Institute of Oriental Studies at the Jagiellonian University from 1966 onwards (on a full-time basis between 1973 and 1987). In 1979, he obtained his PhD with a thesis on the legend of Cyrus in the Book of Kings (The Cyrus Legend in the Sahname, published in Kraków in 1995); in 1986, he received his habilitation on the basis of his thesis Klasyczne podstawy poetyki perskiej (published in Kraków in 1986).

Between 1950 and 1973, he worked for PWM Edition as a technical editor; he was responsible for the graphic design and illustrations of many editions, selecting the iconography himself by scouring Polish and foreign collections, including for the source anthologies: Muzyka polskiego Odrodzeni (Krakow 1953), Polskie kolędy i pastorałki (Krakow 1957), Od Tatr do Bałtyku, wybór polskich melodii ludowych (Krakow 1958), Pastorałki polskie by J. Harasymowicz (Krakow 1966, 2nd edition 1980); and monographic studies, including: Karol Szymanowski a Podhale (Krakow 1958), Mieczysław Karłowicz w Tatrach. Pisma taternickie i zdjęcia fotograficzne (Krakow 1957, 3rd edition 1968) and others. He was the author of a monumental project, originally intended to comprise 11 illustrated monographs, the initial realisation of which was an album dedicated to I.J. Paderewski on the centenary of his birth (announced but unrealised titles include Monteverdi and Vivaldi). The album devoted to H. Wieniawski is the first Polish edition to make pioneering and almost exemplary use of the extensive collection of portraits, engravings, letters and documents, programmes and press cuttings, preserved both in Poland and abroad, relating to the life and artistic activity of the violinist and composer.
