Dadak-Kozicka Józefina Katarzyna, *1 January 1944 Kazimierza Wielka, Polish ethnomusicologist. Between 1965 and 1970 she studied at the Institute of Musicology at the University of Warsaw; she was a research assistant there from 1970 to 1978, and in 1979 she was awarded a doctorate for her thesis Słowiańskie pieśni żniwne Słowiańskie pieśni żniwne. Próba typologii muzycznej. [Slavic Harvest Songs: An Attempt at Musical Typology]. In 1978, she began working at the State Higher School of Music (now the F. Chopin Academy of Music) in Warsaw, where she lectures on folklore and music history; she has been a professor there since 1998. Since 1986, she has also worked as an assistant professor at the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences, where she obtained her habilitation in 1997. In 1985, she furthered her qualifications at the International Kodály Institute in Kecskemét. As a scholar of music education theory, she is involved in adapting the Kodály method of music education to Polish conditions; since 1987, she has lectured at the Polish-Hungarian Kodály Seminars organised in Poland every two years for music students and teachers, and she is vice-chair of the Kodály Circle at ISME. In her studies, starting from morphological analysis and moving through descriptions of sensory qualities, she has arrived at the symbolic content of folklore and its significance in music education and culture. She conducts empirical research into young people’s attitudes towards music; in her sociological and philosophical works, she highlights the role of emotions and faith in human thinking about the world and life, and in understanding the meaning of music in culture. Since 1997, she has been chair of the musicologists’ section of the Polish Composers’ Union (ZKP).
