Czerniawski Tadeusz, *25 October 1877 Łabunie (near Zamość), †10 March 1938 Warsaw, Polish choral conductor, teacher, organist, and composer. In 1903 he completed a course in organ playing, and in 1906 he studied composition under Z. Noskowski. Initially he worked as an organist; later he organized and conducted choirs, including during his stay in Russia in 1915–18. He taught at various schools, lecturing in theoretical subjects. As head of the Department of Culture of the Warsaw City Council (from 1921), he established over 20 choral societies (including in working-class communities) and organized popular, free concerts. From 1932 he served as an inspector in the Department of Art at the Ministry of Religious Denominations and Public Enlightenment and as music director of Polish Radio; from 1933 he was head of the organ class and lecturer in theoretical subjects at the Fryderyk Chopin Music School at the Warsaw Music Society. He was a member of the Main Council of the Union of Polish Singing and Music Associations and president of the Mazovian Union; in 1908–09 he wrote concert reviews for “Młoda Muzyka”, and later for “Przegląd Muzyczny”.
