Tcherepnin Ivan Alexandrovich, *5 February 1943 Paris, †11 April 1998, Boston, A. Tcherepnin’s son, an American composer. He learned piano from his mother and composition from his father in Paris, then from 1960 to 1964 in the USA at Harvard University with R. Thompson and L. Kirchner, and later with H. Pousseur and K. Stockhausen. He also studied conducting with P. Boulez. From 1967 to 1969, he taught at Harvard University; from 1969, at the San Francisco Conservatory; and from 1972, back at Harvard as professor of composition and head of the electronics studio.
