Biography

Chorosiński Andrzej, *24 May 1949 Otwock (near Warsaw), Polish organist and teacher, son of Jan. From 1967, he studied at the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw in the class of organist F. Rączkowski (diploma – 1972) and in the composition class of T. Paciorkiewicz (diploma – 1974) and also took a master course in organ playing with F. Peeters in Belgium. In 1972, he received a special prize at the international organ improvisation competition in Kiel. He has performed in various European countries, North America, South Korea, Japan and Israel. From 1972, he worked at the Academy of Music in Warsaw, in 1992 full professor, in 1987–93 vice-rector, and in 1993–99 rector of this university; since 1991, he also taught at the Academy of Music in Wrocław. From 1994, a member of the presidium of the Association of European Music Universities (AECAM), in 1997–99, he chaired the conference of rectors of art universities in Poland; since 1997, artistic director of the Philharmonic in Jelenia Góra. He cooperated in organising 7 international organ festivals in Poland and participated in the work of the jury of international organ competitions in Poland, France and Germany. He has made many recordings for radio, TV and CDs (PN, Veri ton, EMI-Electrola, Live Records, Dabringhaus & Grimm). His repertoire includes baroque and romantic music as well as transcriptions (partly made with M. Sawa) of works by Vivaldi (The Four Seasons), Saint-Saëns (Danse Macabre), Mussorgsky (Pictures at an Exhibition) and Dukas (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice).
