Biography and Literature

Bononcini, Buononcini Giovanni Maria, baptised 23 September 1642 Montecorone (near Modena), †l8 November 1678 Modena, Italian composer, violinist and theoretician. He was a student of M. Uccellini and A. Bendinelli. At a young age, he started service at the court in Modena, from 1671, he was a violinist of a court band; from 1673, he was a bandmaster of the Modena cathedral. In 1669, he became a member of Accademia Filarmonica in Bologna. Bononcini was one of the most outstanding representatives of the Modena school, 13 opuses were published during his life.
