Biography

Bononcini, Buononcini Antonio Maria, *18 June 1677 Modena, †8 July 1726 Modena, son of Giovanni Maria, Italian composer and cellist. In 1686, he studied with G.P. Colonna in Bologna, where he then played in the orchestra of the papal legate Benedetto Pamphili. From 1694 to 1700, he was active in Rome. In 1702, he played in the orchestra in Berlin, in the years 1705–11, he performed his operas, serenatas and oratorios in Vienna. Around 1714, he settled permanently in Modena, where in 1721, he became court kapellmeister. Appreciated as a composer by G.B. Martini. He wrote 12 operas, 8 serenatas, 4 oratorios, 42 cantatas, 2 masses, Stabat Mater, cello sonatas and others.
