Baltazarini, Baldassaro di Belgioioso, Balthazar de Beaujoyeulx, *early 16th century Lombardy, †ca. 1587 Paris, Italian choreographer, violinist, composer. A student of P. Diobon, who ran a dance school in Milan in the first half of the 16th century. Since 1555 (1554?) Baltazarini stayed in France at the royal court. He remained in the service of Catherine de’ Medici for the longest time, from 1567 as valet de chambre du Roy et de la Royne sa mère. Ennobled, he took the name Balthazar de Beaujoyeulx. He organized ballets, festivals, and court masquerades, in which he implemented the ideas of La Pléiade, which advocated the creation of a musical and poetic theater.
