De Muro Lomanto Enzo, born Vincenzo de Muro, *1902 Canosa di Puglia, †15 February 1952 Naples, Italian singer (tenor). He trained at the Conservatorio San Piero di Maiella in Naples, whilst also studying at the University of Naples. In 1925, he made his debut in Catanzaro as Alfred in Verdi’s La Traviata; he soon achieved great success at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, singing the role of Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca and the Duke in Verdi’s Rigoletto. He subsequently appeared at leading theatres in Switzerland and France; in 1929 he performed at La Scala in Milan during the world premiere of U. Giordano’s opera Il Ré and sang there on numerous occasions thereafter. Between 1928 and 1932, he was married to the famous singer Toti dal Monte, with whom he undertook tours to Japan and Australia. In the 1930s, he made recordings (unfortunately few in number) for Columbia, including the complete Lucia di Lammermoor by Donizetti. He went down in history as one of the finest masters of vocal technique and the Italian bel canto style of that period, excelling particularly in the performance of Donizetti’s works and Neapolitan songs.
