Bacewicz Kiejstut, *13 June 1904 Łódź, †27 August 1993 Zgierz (near Łódź), Grażyna Bacewicz’s brother, Polish chamber musician and teacher. He initially studied music in Łódź (1914–24) at the Music Conservatory of H. Kijeńska-Dobkiewiczowa (with A. Dobkiewicz – piano, with K. Sikorski – theory), then in Warsaw (1924–26) at the State Conservatory of Music (with A. Dobkiewicz – piano, R. Statkowski and P. Rytel – composition). In 1931, he graduated from the University of Warsaw with a master’s degree in philosophy. In 1931–35, he lived in Kaunas, and in 1935–45 in Warsaw, working as a teacher, publicist and chamber musician. Then he moved to Łódź, where he developed concert and teaching activities, periodically also lecturing at the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw. In 1957–69, he was the rector of the State Higher School of Music in Łódź. He gave concerts in Poland and abroad (France, England, Germany, USSR); he also performed with his sister Grażyna Bacewicz, making album recordings with her. He is the author of piano pieces and songs, journalistic articles and music reviews, as well as editorial studies in the field of piano music. He was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (1960) and the honorary title of Distinguished Teacher of the Polish People’s Republic (1971). In 1993, he received an honorary doctorate from the Academy of Music in Łódź.
