1st August – National Remembrance Day of the Warsaw Uprising.
On the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, we commemorate the dramatic events of 1 August 1944. The most serious freedom uprising of World War II. Thousands of victims, enormous destruction, but also proof of extraordinary courage and love for the homeland.
On this special day, we recommend our “Warsaw” collections in the section Pictures, available at the Polish Music Library. Among the engravings illustrating urban architecture and city panoramas, you will also find photographs showing the war destruction of the capital.
However, the uprising was mostly about people – those who fought and died. Among them, there were many representatives of the world of music, including the outstanding composer Roman Padlewski, who died of wounds after the fight, as well as Elżbieta Dziębowska (pseudonym Dewajtis), later the executive editor of Encyclopaedia of Music PWM.
