December begins, so it’s high time for us to present the last Instrument of the Month in 2024. The next hero of the initiative is the trumpet – a brass instrument that has been delighting listeners with its metallic sounds for centuries. At the beginning of its history, the trumpet was used in military signals and ceremonies, and today, it is an inseparable element of symphonic orchestras, jazz bands and film music.
Playing the trumpet requires a precise breathing technique and work on the strength of the lips, which allows for a clear and full sound. Many outstanding trumpet players have made this instrument one of the most important in jazz music. Among the most famous are such legends as Dizzy Gillespie, Wynton Marsalis and Chet Baker.
One of the most outstanding Polish trumpet players was Tomasz Stańko, who gained international recognition for his unique style and sound. His career started in the 1960s, and in the following decades, Stańko performed at the most important jazz festivals in Europe. One of the leading trumpet players of contemporary Polish jazz music is Piotr Wojtasik, who combines jazz traditions with modern elements of post-bop.

Have you ever wondered why there is a trumpet in the post office logo?
Post horn was popularised by the Princely House of Thurn and Taxis (organisers of the postal system in Europe). The horn was used by couriers to announce their approach to a postal station and also by postilions to scare away wild animals and inform about potential dangers.
