48 bells will ring on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of PWM
In the calendar of musical meetings organised on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the PWM Edition, apart from symphonic and chamber concerts with the participation of excellent artists, there was also room for recitals on the carillon – an instrument consisting of many bells, which we wrote about here.
Of the five concert carillons in Poland, three are located in Gdańsk. One of them, the mobile carillon “Gdańsk,” consisting of 48 bells and weighing 4,868 kg, was brought to Wrocław especially for the PWM jubilee. Carillonneur Monika Kaźmierczak will play pieces by contemporary Polish composers during two recitals on 7 and 8 March, including Gdańska nostalgia by Krzysztof Knittel, Cristal and cristal by Hanna Kulenty, Memento by Krzysztof Meyer, Dzwony św. Katarzyny by Marta Ptaszyńska, STOP by Paweł Mykietyn, Running North by Elżbieta Sikora, and Three Calls by Alek Nowak.
We are eagerly listening for the sounds of this unusual instrument, and to make the waiting time more pleasant, we recommend a colouring book perfect for this occasion. Grab your yellow crayons!
