Grochowski Stanisław, *ca. 1542 in Mazovia, †30 January 1612 Krakow, Polish poet and clergyman. He was educated by the Jesuits in Pułtusk and around 1573 became a priest. Endowed with numerous prebends, he was active in Krakow; he was associated with the royal chancery and the episcopal curia of Krakow. He wrote occasional and pietistic poetry (mainly translations in the latter category). A number of these works were published in 4-part settings, while others entered the popular monophonic repertory (e.g. Pieśń o Hołubku, several works from Wirydarz by J. Pontanus). With music by K. Klabon there appeared his cycle 6 Pieśni Kalliopy słowieńskiej na teraźniejsze pod Byczyną zwycięstwo (Kraków 1588; it is possible that Pieśni na fest ucieszny wielkim dwiema narodom…, Kraków 1606, were also sung to this setting); with music by A. Pacelli, Bogu w Trójcy jedynemu i św. Stanisławowi… tablica obiecana (n.p.d.); with music by Diomedes Cato, Pieśń o św. Stanisławie… (Kraków 1607) and Rytmy łacińskie dziwnie sztuczne… (Kraków 1606, repr. 1607; including Modlitwa Kazimierza S[więtego] Królewica and 4 Hymny z Godzinek); in anonymous settings, Wiersz… na szczęśliwy przyjazd Jego Królewskiej Mości… (Kraków 1574) and Rytmy o zacności… (Kraków 1598). Grochowski adapted his translation Hymny, prozy i cantica kościelne (Kraków 1599) to existing melodies.
