Farrell Eileen, *13 February 1920 Willimantic (Connecticut), †23 March 2002 Park Ridge (New Jersey), American singer (soprano). She trained in New York. Between 1947 and 1948 she undertook a concert tour of the USA, and in 1949 of South America. In 1950, she achieved great success as Maria in a concert performance of A. Berg’s opera Wozzeck at Carnegie Hall in New York. In 1956, she made her debut in the role of Leonora in G. Verdi’s Il Trovatore with the San Francisco Opera Company. From 1960, she performed at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, as a guest at Covent Garden in London and on other European stages. She is known primarily as a concert singer; she collaborated for many years with the New York Philharmonic and the NBC Symphony Orchestra; she made numerous archival radio recordings.
