Szymonowicz, Simonides, Jerzy, *2nd half of the 16th c. Rymanów (the Lesser Poland), †at the earliest 1652, Polish cornetist. From 1599 or 1600, he lived and studied in Rome. In 1614–52 he was active at the Warsaw royal band as a cornetist and a cornet teacher. In Xenia Apollinea, a supplement to Cribrum musicum by M. Scacchi (Venice 1643), there is a 2-voice canon “in Tuono superiori” – the only known Szymonowicz’s composition.
