Biography and Literature

Supičić Ivo, Ivan, *18 July 1928 Zagreb, Croatian musicologist, and music sociologist. In 1953, he graduated from piano studies at the Academy of Music in Zagreb, in 1960–63, he studied at Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in Paris where he obtained his doctorate with the dissertation Eléments de la sociologie musicale. In 1964–86, he taught at the musicology department of the Zagreb Academy of Music (professor from 1964) and in 1979–93 at Strasbourg University; in 1967–68, he gave guest lectures at Harvard University in Cambridge. In 1982–87, he was the chairperson of the International Music Society. He served on the editorial board of the journals “Acta Musicologica” and “Arti musices;” from 1970, he was an executive editor of a biyearly “International Review of the Aesthetics and Sociology of Music” he established.
