Sulchaniszwili, Niko (EN)

Biography

Sulchaniszwili Niko, *1871 Atskuri (Eastern Georgia) †3 December 1919 Tbilisi, Georgian composer and conductor. He studied music under L. Agniaszwili (singing) at the divinity school in Tbilisi (1884–90). He was a conductor of a choir he set up in 1912 in Tbilisi, specialised in performing traditional Georgian music. Sulchaniszwili composed choir music that reflected his interest in folklore and Georgian Church music; this is evidenced by melodies repeated in the composition and their numerous variants.
