Biography

Sąsiadek Eugeniusz, *17 February 1929 Żyrawa (near Lviv), Polish singer (countertenor) and teacher. He studied with W. Jędrzejewska at the State Higher School of Music in Wrocław (graduated in 1956) and G. Favaretto at the Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia in Rome (1967/68). He specialised in performing romantic songs and early music. In 1961–83, he collaborated with Capella Bydgostiensis and Capella Cracoviensis. In 1968, he founded the ensemble Complesso di Musica Antica at the State Higher School of Music (from 1981 the Academy of Music) in Wrocław, with which he was associated from 1960 as a lecturer (1978 associate professor, 1983 full professor), dean of the Vocal Faculty (1968–81, 1984–87), head of the Department of Vocal Studies (since 1972), vice-rector (1981–84) and rector (1987–90 and 1995). In 1982–84, he was the director and artistic director of the opera in Wrocław, and in 1992–97, the president of the Association of Polish Art Musicians. As part of the Wratislavia Cantans festival, he organised numerous scientific sessions devoted to the interpretation of early music and the practice of performing oratorio and cantata works. He wrote many articles, published, among others, in the series “Scientific Journals of the Academy of Music in Wrocław;” he made many album recordings.
