Ries, Hubert
Ries Franz Anton, *10 November 1755 Bonn, 1 November 1846 Bad Godesberg, German violinist, son of Johann. He learned to play the violin with J.P. Salomon. From 1779, he was concertmaster of the orchestra at the Electoral Court in Bonn, and from 1791 its music director; he held the position of music director of the court until its fall in 1794 after the French invasion. Later he was engaged in teaching activities. He was friends with L. van Beethoven’s parents and was his teacher for some time.
