Biography

Rauzzini Matteo, *1754 Camerino (near Rome), †1791 Dublin, Italian composer, brother of Venanzio. He stayed for a short time in Munich at the beginning of the 1970s, then moved to Venice, where he taught singing. He spent the last years of his life in Dublin, also giving lessons to singers. The opera Il re pastore (libretto by P. Metastasio), the only opera seria written by him, was staged in this city in 1784. Additionally, he composed two comic operas: Il Cam cinese, libretto by G. Fioroni, Le finte gemelle, libretto by G. Petrosellini (?), both staged in Munich 1772. He also wrote a two-act opera, L’opera nuova, libretto by G. Bertati, staged in Venice 1775, and two oratorios Plagae Aegypti and Exitus Israel de Aegypto, both performed in Venice in 1785.
