Moeck Hermann I, *9 July 1896 Elbląg, †9 October 1982 Gran Canaria, German music publisher. He founded a music publishing house and an instruments manufactory in Celle in 1930. The company promoted the recorders and compositions for these instruments (through participation in the production, and, from 1945, full production and publishing of works and magazines about music). Thanks to the company’s efforts, the following publications were released: the magazine “Der Blockflöten Spiegel” in cooperation with A. Nagel Verlag (1931–34), “Zeitschrift für Spielmusik,” a monthly in three languages with articles on the history of music, folklore and contemporary music (since 1932), “Celler Spielmann” (1938–48) and publishing series «Moecks Gelbe Musikhefte» (1934–) and «Moecks Kammermusik» (1938–), which published, among others, a new edition of Ph. Telemann’s works. In 1948, Hermann II (*16 August 1922 Lüneburg), H. Moeck’s son, became a partner of the company and the director of the publishing department. In 1956, he bought the Chrysandera company in Bergedorf along with source materials for a complete edition of Händel’s works and J.A. Hasse’s operas. He established cooperation with PWM and since 1958 has promoted Polish contemporary music, including W. Lutosławski, K. Penderecki and K. Serocki. In 1960, after the retirement of H. Moeck I, the company came under the management of his son. In the instrument construction department, with the cooperation of Otto Steinkopf, the production of Renaissance and Baroque woodwind instruments has been developed since 1964. The collection of instruments in the company’s museum since 1930 is now in the possession of the University of Göttingen. The company organises training and constantly promotes old instruments. H. Moeck II is the author of the work Typen europäischer Blockflöten in Vorzeit, Geschichte und Volksüberlieferung, Celle 1967.
