Klotz, Kloz, Cloz, Glotz, a family of German luthiers operating since the end of the 17th century in Mittenwald (Bavaria). In the 18th century, members of the Klotz family played a key role in the development of the art of violin making in this centre, which over time became an important hub for the manufacture of musical instruments based on team production. The large and ramified Klotz family is represented by eight generations with at least 36 members, the most important of whom are listed here [other entries].
