Kleczyński, Franciszek (EN)

Biography

Kleczyński, Kletzinsky Franciszek, †before 6 August 1828 Vienna, Polish violinist and composer active in Vienna, Jan’s brother. All we know about his life is that he lived in Vienna and before 1796 he worked as a violinist at the Leopoldstädtertheater, where mainly musical comedies were performed; F. Kleczyński was probably “Musikdirektor bei der Violine” there. Married to Magdalena Hiebl, they had three children, two of whom distinguished themselves in Austrian life and culture: the elder son Józef, a surgeon and ophthalmologist, was passionate about music, the younger Franciszek was a famous landscape painter. It is known that F. Kleczyński composed 3 duets for 2 violins, of which Duet No. 3 is known, preserved in the manuscript of an unknown copyist in the library of the Cistercian monastery in Wilhering near Linz in Austria. It is a neatly written early classical piece with a clear form and uniform sound, demonstrating the composer’s melodic inventiveness.

Ferdynard Kleczyński, listed as a composer from the 19th century by some researchers (Eitner, Chybiński), seems to be a fictional character.
