Jarno Georg, *3 June 1868 Budapeszt, †20 May 1920 Wrocław, Austrian composer and conductor. He studied music in Budapest. He worked as a conductor in many German cities, including Freiburg im Breisgau, Halle, Magdeburg, Metz, Bremen, Stuttgart, Berlin, Legnica and Wrocław. Having failed to achieve success as an opera composer, he devoted himself to operetta.
Jarno went down in operetta history as the creator of Die Försterchristl [Christel the Forest Ranger], whose sentimental libretto and stage qualities ensured its long-lasting success. Of his other works, only Das Musikantenmädel was successful. Jarno’s music was essentially rooted in operetta classics; the flowing melodies of his waltzes were somewhat more modern in character.
