Jabłoński Szczepan, *1756, †28 April 1828 Lviv, Polish composer and singer. Information regarding Jabłoński’s life and work is scarce. It is known that he worked in Lviv as a composer, singer and choirmaster at the Dominican church. In addition to minor vocal and instrumental compositions, in which – according to the opinion of his contemporaries – he achieved a “high degree of perfection”, he also wrote several masses characterised by “appropriate and very beautiful style”. He probably completed his Requiem shortly before his death; in accordance with the composer’s wishes, it was to be performed at his funeral. The manuscript of the work was lost, and during the funeral service on 30 April 1828, K. Vogel’s Requiem was performed (the choir of the Towarzystwo Śpiewacze im. św. Cecylii was conducted by F.X. Mozart, son of W.A. Mozart). The manuscripts of Jabłoński’s works are probably held in the library of the Dominican monastery in Lviv.
