Hannikainen, Arvo
Hannikainen Väinö Aatos, *12 January 1900 Jyväskylä, †7 August 1960 Kuhmoinen, Finnish harpist and composer, son of Pekka. He studied harp in 1917–20 in Helsinki, then in the years 1921–23 in Berlin with M. Saal. From 1923, he was the first harpist of the Helsinki Symphony Orchestra. He was involved in collecting and arranging folk songs and dances in northern Karelia. His works include: Concerto for harp and orchestra, the ballet Onnen linna (‘happy castle’), and solo and choral songs are generally kept in a post-Romantic convention.
