Gerke, Anton
Gerke Avgust Griegoryevich, *1790 Lüneburg, †after 1848, Russian violinist, conductor and composer of German origin. He performed in concerts in Ukraine, especially in Kyiv (1823), and directed the orchestra in Dessau (1824). From 1825 he was Kapellmeister of the peasant orchestra of Count Gansky in Zhytomyr. In 1835 he became music director in Kassel. He composed orchestral works and pieces for violin and orchestra (Popurri v polskom stile and 3 poloneza).
